Who sings in the Gaelic Choir?Guth nan Eilean, the Victoria Gaelic Choir, was formed in 1997 with a core membership of 24, and now numbers about 30 active members.People from all backgrounds, of all ages and from all sections of the community sing in the choir. All that is necessary is a love of music, an interest in things Gaelic and Scottish, and, above all, the ability to have a good time. The choir is a member of the Victoria Joint Scottish Council. A Schedule of Events is published each month and can be accessed on the JSC Website http://members.shaw.ca/ifeir/RehearsalsRehearsals are held every Wednesday evening (apart from breaks at Christmas and during the summer months) in Community of Christ Church at the corner of Burnside and Jutland in Victoria. Visitors are welcome to attend. Rehearsals commence with instruction in pronunciation, followed by a warm-up session before we start practicing new and familiar songs. For those who wish to learn more about the Gaelic language, instruction is available at the BBC Alba website “Beag air Bheag” – “Little by Little.” http://www.bbc.co.uk/alba/foghlam/beag_air_bheag/
